Defib / AED

The urgency for accessing and using a defibrillator in a patient who suffers a sudden collapse is well recognised and highlighted in the October 2010 Resuscitation Council Guidelines.    Increasingly, defibrillators are available in public buildings and at GP Surgeries.   Chances of survival can be significantly enhanced with very prompt treatment with a defibrilator.

Course aims

  • equips / refreshes participants with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to carry out effective resuscitation/CPR techniques
  • ensures participants gain the confidence necessary to carry out effective resuscitation
  • equips participants with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to carry out defibrillation using an automatic external defibrillator

Training will be to October 2010 Resuscitation Council Guidelines.

Courses will include:

  • BLS/resuscitation;  use of AED/automated external defibrilator;  indications for use; safety

Course details:

format: very informal, professional, up to date, fun, interactive,challenging
when: your choice of dates
where: at your surgery
how long: 1½ – 3hrs depending on pre-existing and up to date knowledge of CPR
how many: ideally not more than 12
type of certificate: 1yr certificate of attendance
cost: £150-£250 depending on whether it is standalone or combined with eg BLS/resuscitation and or anaphylaxis training
who should attend: all surgery staff (Resuscitation Council recommendation), certainly all clinical staff
